Water is Life – Another borehole to Gongweya from Sunseed Oil Limited.

Sunseed Oil Limited has once again demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of the communities surrounding its operations. In response to the cholera pandemic that swept through the country last year, Sunseed recognized the critical importance of ensuring access to potable water in the villages near its facilities. As part of their ongoing efforts, Sunseed recently drilled a new borehole in Gongweya village, contributing significantly to the prevention of waterborne diseases, with a specific focus on cholera.

Waterborne diseases pose a significant threat in Malawi to communities in general, and Sunseed has taken proactive measures to address this issue. By providing a sustainable source of clean water, Sunseed aims to reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases, particularly cholera, which claimed lives in the region in 2023.

By actively participating in the implementation of practical solutions, such as drilling boreholes, Sunseed contributes to the larger government goal of improving public health.

One of the positive outcomes of Sunseed’s borehole initiative is the potential reduction in the burden placed on women in the community. Traditionally, women are often tasked with fetching water for their households, and the long distances they travel to access clean water sources can be both physically demanding and time-consuming. The new borehole in Gongweya village is a step towards mitigating this challenge, as it brings clean water closer to the community, making daily water-related tasks more manageable for women.
